NOTICE: public nights end 28th September. Private bookings will still be available.
Light pollution blocks our view of the universe, disrupts wildlife, impacts human health, and wastes money and energy.
Components of light pollution include:
Glare — excessive brightness that causes visual discomfort.
Sky glow — brightening of the night sky over inhabited areas.
Light trespass — light falling where it is not intended or needed.
Clutter — bright, confusing, and excessive groupings of light sources.
Dunedin City Council has converted street lighting from high pressure sodium lamps to 3000K LEDs. The shielding is improved from the sodium lamps, and the night sky is more visible than in the past.
