Eclipse Viewing Guide
Best Locations to View (proposed)
While some degree of the eclipse will be seen across NZ, the path of totality is only 160 kilometres wide. The experience of totality is truly ‘next level’ compared with a partial eclipse so – on the Otago coast you need to be between Maheno and the Nuggets Lighthouse. For maximum effect, you need to be on the centre line of the shadow path. Dunedin is fortunate to be on the centre line.
Here are our initial picks of the prime viewing areas close to the centre line.
Signal Hill
University Oval
St Clair beach
Rotary Park
Hoopers Inlet
Johnstone Park, Mosgiel
Middlemarch
Clarks Junction, SH87
